Before You Begin

Before you begin to make this platform you need to measure the component you are making it for. Lets take a cdp with 12x17 inches for example. What I found looks best is adding an inch onto each side. so you would get a final dimension of 14x19.

Tools and Materials

The tools and materials needed for the project are Sander, measuring tape, screws, 20 inch innertube, Table saw, (you could use something else. just your edges might not be as straight) A screw gun. piece of 3/4-1inch plywood or solid wood of birch, oak, something hard. 1"x1/2-3/4 inch pieces of wood for the retainer piece. could be cut from extra plywood of bought as trim pieces from the local hardware store.

Assembly Instructions

Ok, now that you have your platform piece cut and sanded you can begin work on the retainer pieces for this step, there are a couple ways you could complete it. by using different cuts on the wood. but the goal is the same. you want the retainer pieces to run flush along side the edges of the platform all the way around. with the 1 inch side of the wood facing out. so that the retainer will add one inch of space underneath the platform. what this does is keeps the innertube in place and its makes it look a lot better basically the way I attached mine ( the easy way ) was made 2 pieces 19 inches long to each go on the front and back. and 2 pieces 13 inches to go in the sides. remember. don't make the side pieces the same length of the side of the platform as we did for the front. because you need to factor in the 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch times 2 of the front and back retainer pieces. Or you could just cut the pieces at a 45 degree angle at the corners, but I wont explain that.

Ok now you should have your platform and all 4 pieces for the retainer cut and ready to screw on. because the retainer is one inch thick you will need to get one and a half inch wood screws or finish screws. no longer or else it would go through the top of the platform. predrill holes for the screws before you put them in because the retainer is only 1/2 inch wide it would split very easily. put 2-3 screws in each retainer pieces one on each end and one in the middle.
