Fill freezer type Ziplock sandwich storage bags with sand and sandwich between two pieces of MDF

Source Brand
Saw the ads for Bright Star Isolation platform and wanted one but didn't want to pay the $100

Construction
Fill three storage bags with sand. Washed and dried sandbox sand works well. Fill three bags with equal amounts of sand. Measuring it out is a good idea. Remove all the air from the bags by sucking it out. I know this sounds like a lung-full of sand, but do it slowly and it will work. Seal the Ziplock when the air is out. This is important to make sure the bags don't have any air. Place the bags between the MDF boards you got cut to your racks shelf size and you're ready to go.

Setup
Place your vibration sensitive gear on top of the board/sand/board sandwich. Make sure that the top platform is level. If you didn't fill the bags with approximately the same amount of sand or if you didn't remove all the air this may make things a little less stable. Go back and remove all the air.

Use
Use this tweak under CD transports, D/A converters, turntables and pre-amps.

Performance
Knocking on the board will tell you just how this tweak has damped the shelf. The thing I noticed was an improvement in focus of the instruments. They had a better defined space on the soundstage with more black distance between them. Things just tightened up.

Other
I had a hard time believing this tweak would work as well as it did. I am now a believer in audio tweaking!

sylvia Try playsand mixed with elmers wood glue or white elmers glue. The object is to coat the inner walls of mdf speaker cabinets to make them "DEAD" coat the walls 1/8 th of an inch, cut an old metal tape measure and dip in the first coated wall and you will see the depth, let each wall dry about a day- i know - a pain doing first two walls but then you get used to it and man the results are pristine!! You have to also use a standing waves~~~~~~ killer though like black hole-5 i am wondering what works as good cuz i think blhole-5 is a marketing stunt to make money ;)
