10 pair telephone wire as speaker cable

Reference # Submitted by Submitter rating Cost
20 Eric McMillan The Best $1.00

Source Brand
self

Construction
fan out insulated wires, strip all whites wires and twist neatly together, ditto coloured wires.

Setup
ensure L&R cables are laid in same direction ( check lettering on sheath)

Use
Very low series inductance ( due to closely matched pairs)at expense of higher than usual capacitance.

Performance
plenty of copper, very low inductance allows big clean lows, clean extended highs and pleasant mids.

Other
some amps may oscillate i.e. do not use this cable with NAIM amplifiers ( these depend on high inductance cable for stability)

Mariep What brand of wire do you use?

Nate Is there any issue with the different wires being of slightly different lengths? I have heard of using only ONE of the pairs with SET amplifiers, but also have heard that different pairs will be different lengths, and grouping them will result in smeared signal.
