Bob I couldn't agree more with this tweek. Actually, I tried gluing 2 maple shelf board together, but in the end, I wound up ordering the 2" thick solid maple platforms from Mapleshaderecords.com I couldn't believe the results, but the combination of the mapleshade stuff opened up the soundstage so much that I couldn't believe it! So, get the 2'" platform, brass cones, and isoblock cork and rubber platform supports from Mapleshade records. This is the best thing I have done to my system in years! You can get the platforms unfinished for $50 bucks and put your own shellac or lacquer on them. But, I went ahead and ordered the platform finished and they do a really good job on finishing them platforms. I almost forgot. I took off the plastic bottom cover of my Pioneer PD-65 stable platter CD player and put the brass cones right on the copper plate of the unit. This probably made the biggest difference, because you are draining any of the internal electronic vibrations right straight thru the bottom copper metal plate into the wood maple platform. Actually, Jonathan Scull that used to be the tweek king at Stereophile also found that just some simple maple wood was much better than any of those megabuck isolation platforms. So, remember, if you want your system to sound more transparent and increase the depth, always use maple, brass cones, and rubber and cork supports. This stuff really works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
