Read an article on the net suggesting to put your sub on stands and away from floor

Construction
Need a couple of 3-4 inch pieces of wood to stick under your subwoofer.

Setup
You could probably just build a stand later on if this tweak works for you, but for now just place the pieces of wood under the front of your subwoofer. The subwoofer needs to be away from the floor to tighten up bass. You need only a few degress of slope. You may want to add just enough lift to get the cone to "look" more directly at your ears. You just want to get the woofer away from the floor as much as possible.

Use
Woofer should be more pointed upwards and away from the floor.

Performance
Just like placing your main speakers on stands but most people overlook their subwoofer. Makes it less boomy. Adds a bit more spaciousness to bass.
