Setup
I have a homemade pine cabinet that I store my components in. At the base it has a large open cabinet with doors for storage. If this storage area is not completely filled, the overall quality of the sound is reduced.

Use
The resonance effect of the open wood cabinet can be dampened by filling it with a dense material like a bunch of LPs! I suppose other materials might work as well. More experimentation is needed depending of the size of your cabinets.

Performance
The overall sound was fuller and richer. Bass is less muddy and boomy. Treble is more detailed.
