Okay, So I was trawling through the internet reading about mains conditioners. They can be an expensive bit of kit for a tweak. But the thing is I already had bought one, for my PC, so I thought I'd give it a go. At first i used an APC 250va UPS which gave depth to the soundstage but sat on the dynamics...not good. As I am a computer technician I have access to a few of these things, so I took an APC Back-UPS 650va home from work...result was good; greater depth and no impact on dynamic so I kept it there.
My amp is a Meridian Component which runs a switch mode power supply. I think the 250va UPS wasn't up to the job.
The 650va has an power output to filter RFI, spike etc that by-passes the battery...I plug the amp in here and my Rotel cd play in the battery section. I've tried it the other way round and the sound goes a little flat, although not as bad as through the 250va. |

| Well
it worked for me and you can pick these things up cheap on
Ebay. If you've already got one give it a try. I'd go for
one with the largest va. The downside is that the UPS's on
Ebay are likely to need new batts and some UPS's suffer from
very load hum. The 650 Back-Ups I use is silent. |

Hi,
After reading this tweak checked www.apc.com and found a
voltage regulator. I have added a APC Line-R 1200VA
Automatic Voltage Regulator which now powers my CD
Player and Amplifier. Huge difference. Bass, Sound Stage
and Clarity have improved considerably. Never have I
spent so little and received so much.
