Place a slate floor tile or wooden tile on the carpet (about 1 foot square, not crucial). Use spike support disks (eg IXOS layer disks) between speaker spikes and tile.

Fantastic clear treble response, clearer midband and punchy bass. Dramatic listener fatigue reduction.

Spikes only really work when the tip is resting on a hard surface like metal. The method above saves having to place screws under carpets (russ andrews madness!) and also demonstrates the folly of the notion that speakers have to be absolutely rigid in the horizontal plane - plenty of science (www.sonic-design.co.uk) shows that speaker movement in this plane is negligible.
